MyFC - the vote and reactions

You'd think a vote would be easy enough to sort out these days, but not if you're MyFC. Since Carlos Karani Kabir became interested in EUFC a few weeks ago, Fleet fans have been pleading with their owners to put a vote up and move the Club on. After many discussions on the MyFC forum, a vote was put up two to three weeks later, but none of the options involved selling/giving the club to Carlos. Their were three options on the vote, and these were:

Option 1. Offer 50% of our of our 75% share ownership to the Fleet Trust supporters group with a view to the fans being allowed to accept the proposal by Carlos Kabir and passing them on to him. The remainder of our shares we will offer to MYFC member and ex club chair Phil Sonsara who has loaned in excess of £200k to the club. The purpose of this is to enable him to have some leverage at the club so that he may be in a position to retrieve some or all of his loans in the future and as an acknowledgement to his support for the club over the last three years.

Option 2. Offer for sale sufficient number of shares at a price that is sufficient to clear the immediate debt of the club while maintaining our majority share ownership and therefore continuing as majority owners of Ebbsfleet United as detailed in the club meeting of Monday 15 April.

Option 3. Instruct the club Chair to put the club into administration with immediate effect.

Option one was as it says. MyFC would pass 50% of their shares to the Fleet Trust and the other 25% to director and former Chairman Phil Sonsara. The Fleet Trust would then be able to give their 1% stake to Carlos along with the 50%, meaning the Spaniard would then be the majority owner of the Fleet.

Option two is a little delusional in my opinion. MyFC cannot fund the Club with their low numbers and seem to be dragging the Club down even more yet they want to continue as majority owners and sell a small percentage?

Option three is ludicrous. Why would you choose to put the club into administration?

Anyway, the vote was put up on Friday 19 April and lasted until Monday 22 April at 11:00am. A total of 615 people voted and the results were as follows:

Option 1. 430 votes. (69.92%)
Option 2. 106 votes. (17.24%)
Option 3. 68 votes. (11.06%)

I am undecided or abstain. 11 votes. (1.79%)

It was clear from the beginning that option 1 would win the vote and it was also clear that it would be the best way forward for the Club.

After the vote, there was a post on the MyFC forum saying that the majority needed to be "75% for a vote of this magnitude". I'm not saying it's wrong, as it may well be right, but it should have been made clear before the vote what the majority needed to be.

Another thing wrong with the vote. Why would 68 people want to voluntarily put the Club into administration? It just doesn't make sense. The amount of people who have claimed that they "care about the club" is unreal. By voting to put the Club into administration is showing you do not care. There are other options and avenues that can be explored before administration. I feel those who voted this option should feel a little embarrassed. To be honest, it should never have been an option in the first place!

Fleet Against MyFC (FAMyFC) the supporters group against the owners released the following statement this afternoon:

"We are delighted that 70% of My Football Club members saw fit to realise that their model of ownership does not work.

We now call upon the members of My Football Club to relinquish their shares as per the wishes of their members, so that the club can both negotiate with their potential investor & avoid administration.

We will, however, highlight that in voting to hand them to the Fleet Trust, that they have ignored the vote of the Fleet Trust members.

Although not ideal we hope that the Fleet Trust can seek a solution and work with the club to end the hopeless ownership of My Football Club and that a swift agreement with Carlos Kabir Kurani can be arranged. Failing this we believe the Fleet Trust are better placed to resolve the issues the club is facing, and in finding genuine investment, than My Football Club.

We now await the outcomes of the meetings that the Fleet Trust plan to have this week & will make no further statements without additional information.

We hope that the Trust can reach agreement with our potential investor & act quickly to remedy the situation we find our club in.

We urge My Football Club to issue an unequivocal statement that this vote is now binding and will not be subject to vetoes or other complications that would cause further delay when time is of the essence for the continued existence of our football club."

The Fleet Trust released the following:

"The Fleet Trust Board note the result of the vote taken by MyFC members which was published earlier today. Representatives of the Trust Board will be attending meetings this week to discuss the outcome of the vote. No further comment will be made by the Fleet Trust until those meetings have taken place."

Before releasing another statement on Monday night:

"Representatives of the Fleet Trust Board met this evening (Monday 22 April) with the EUFC Directors - Jessica McQueen (Chairman) & Phil Sonsara - as a result of the MyFC vote to transfer two-thirds of their EUFC shares (50% of the club) to the Fleet Trust and their remaining EUFC shares (25% of the club) to the previous Chairman, Phil Sonsara.

Any process to potentially transfer shareholdings will clearly take a period of time to accomplish. In the meantime, the Fleet Trust would welcome financial donations from all Fleet fans to enable the Trust to continue working on their behalf. These can be made via our website: http://www.fleet-trust.co.uk/donate-now.php

Meetings have also been scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, and a further statement will be issued in due course."

The two supporter groups have released statements, yet there is nothing from MyFC regarding a statement. You can make your own judgements on that, but to me it is clear they are nowhere near organised enough and are certainly no good to the future of Ebbsfleet United Football Club. Have they not released a statement yet because they know their time is up? Or will they take three weeks to organise one like the vote? Who knows, but I am sure we'll find out soon enough. It will be good to know what they are thinking at MyFC and if they will go through with what the members have spoken for.

FAMyFC are continuing their campaign and you can back us!

Preston Edwards; the greatest Fleet keeper?

Friday 01 January, 2010. The venue was Grays Athletic's Recreation Ground and it was just seven minutes into the match when the Fleet first got on the scoresheet. An audacious Peter Holmes attempt from just in front of the halfway line managed to lob goalkeeper Preston Edwards. For the 400 or so Fleet fans who had made the short trip over to Essex, it would have been a shock to see Edwards trial out for the Fleet the very next pre-season and an even bigger shock to see him sign for the Club.

I spoke to Preston that pre-season at half-time during his first trial match at Aveley and I remember him saying how torturous his time at Grays was and how he was looking forward to playing for the Fleet and, more importantly, under Liam Daish. The young shot stopper certainly had gloves to fill, as Lance Cronin had left to join nearby Gillingham after four years with the Fleet. Originally joining when the Club was Gravesend and Northfleet, he'd joined as cover for the injured Craig Holloway. He soon made the number one spot his own and reached 200 games for the Fleet in two different spells (one on loan while Preston was injured), so it was probably an understatement to say he had a lot to live up to!
Preston holds on to a shot

Preston has spent three seasons with the Fleet and despite being one of the younger fans, I probably speak on behalf of all Fleet fans when I say he is possibly one of the best goalkeepers we have ever had. The end of his first season with us was not only a great time for himself, but excellent for the Club as a whole. After relegation from the Conference Premier the club bounced back at the first time of asking and Preston was a key part in that campaign. Preston was unable to play a part in the two-legged semi-final against Chelmsford, but young Daren Hawkes stepped in brilliantly in his absence. Edwards was back for the final and the rest, as they say, is history. In front of 2,158 Fleet fans at Farnborough's Rushmoor Stadium, the Fleet ran out 4-2 winners to gain promotion at the first attempt. It was a fantastic day all round.

To enjoy the good times, you have to appreciate the bad times too, and this season has certainly been a massive low for everyone involved with Ebbsfleet United Football Club, but one thing we can all say about our number one is that he has been the rock. He's made some blinding saves that have kept us in matches, including two excellent late penalty stops in matches. First one away at Telford. After drawing level, Patrick Ada had given away a late penalty which Edwards expertly saved to deny Steve Jones a hattrick and, more importantly, gave the Fleet a point. The second one was slightly better in my opinion. The last kick of the match was a Newport penalty. The scores were tied at 1-1 and up stepped Andy Sandell who, like Jones, failed to put the ball past the keeper. At that point, Preston had saved five out of the last eight penalties. Of course, with every low comes a high, and the match where Ebbsfleet were officially relegated (Telford at home), Preston received three end of season awards including the Fans Players of the Season.

You have the highs, you have the lows, and then you have the completely out of the ordinary. February 5, 2011 was the day Preston became an internet sensation for his sending off in a home match against Farnborough. After being charged down from kick-off, young left back Ryan Blake sold Preston short with his back pass and Farnborough striker Kezie Ibe was on hand to poach. Unfortunately for him, the quick goalkeeper was there to take him down in the area. The referee was quick to go to his back pocket and produce the red card, timed at just ten seconds into the match! Although annoyed with himself at first, it's now a laughing matter for Preston. If that's what it takes for people to remember him, then so be it. We'll always remember him as one of the greatest goalkeepers to pull on a Fleet shirt. Preston's hard work and commitment was rewarded towards the end of this season when he was handed the captain's armband in the absence of Paul Lorraine.

In his three seasons here, Preston has made over 100 starts, and the Fleet are a Club who will forever be in his Heart. Preston also was rewarded by being called up to the England C squad. He twice received the Man of the Match award for excellent performances against Portugal U23 and Turkey U23 sides. I think we can all agree this this season was Preston's last for the Fleet, and wherever he ends up, we hope he gets only the best. I'm sure it won't be long before Preston is playing regularly in the Football League and he deserves every bit of success he gets. Thanks for everything Preston, and all the best in the future!

Before I go, I'd like to leave you with a little something that Preston has wrote himself.

"Dear Ebbsfleet United

I think it's important to know , that next season I will be looking elsewhere to continue my football career. I do not know which football club that my journey will take me on.
I have had the most important and most memorable three years of my career at Ebbsfleet United. I will always cherish these moments because they make me smile. I have met some wonderful people during my time here and made some great friends along the way.

I've had many ups and downs during my three years here but I take the downs as a positive and learn from them. I became the fastest goalkeeper to be sent off (10 secs). At first I was really annoyed and embarrassed by it. In a weird way, I like it now because people can remember me by it.
The play off final day is the proudest moment I've had in an Ebbsfleet shirt. We worked so hard that season to achieve it and to do it in the manner we did was so satisfying.

A great achievement for us was to stay up the following season and we did that with flying colours. Teams have a massive advantage being full time and us being Part time it was difficult. Something I feel that got the better of us in the 2012/13 season.

I was proud to achieve my Player of the year awards as it means so much to me. I'm proud to captain the side on a few occasions and take on that extra responsibility. I'm also proud of representing the England C side. I have a duty to do well there as I am representing Ebbsfleet as a club.

I was down on my knees when I first joined from Grays Athletic. I had a terrible season there and it was the only club that gave me a chance. I know there was doubts when I first joined and people put question marks on my head. It was the first time in my life, I doubted my own ability and suffered from confidence (issues). I soon realised that this is a massive part of your football career and you should never doubt yourself. Always be strong and prove people wrong.

Someone who believed in me and I couldn't ask for someone more honest and loyal is Mr Liam Daish. He stuck by me when the easy thing to say is 'your not for me'. I couldn't thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to do something I Love doing and play football every week. Ron Hillyard my goalkeeping coach, who has made me the 100x times better goalkeeper I was before I first joined. He worked me hard every training session and I learnt so much. Paul McCarthy the assistant manager who gave me guidance on how to set our team up in certain situations.

My team mates who have been there along with me. I've had so many funny moments and met some real characters.
There are many people that I need to say thank you too. I could go on for ages! However, a massive thank you goes out to all you fleet fans who stick by your side no matter what and travel the country to see your beloved side. I hope you get whatever is best for the club. As you deserve it and I know how much the club means to you. I see that passion every week!

Our paths will cross again and I have loved every minute of my time here.

Never forget. Forever in my heart.

Preston Edwards"

Ebbsfleet United v Tamworth

Ebbsfleet United v Tamworth

The Fleet go into their last home game of the season looking for only their sixth win on home soil this season. Three points would also mean that the Kent outfit cannot finish bottom of the Division.

Tamworth FC
Founded - 1933
Nickname - The Lambs
Manager - Dale Belford (caretaker)
Captain - Duane Courtney
Top scorer - Adam Cunnington (20)

Tamworth had a fairly good start to the season, as they sat nicely outside the play-offs a couple of months into the season. The Fleet beat them at the end of October to leave them in ninth position and since then it has been all down hill for the Lambs as they now sit just two points outside of the relegation zone. A victory in this match will be absolutely massive for them and will go a long way to securing at least another season in this Division.

The Fleet go into this match on the back of an embarrassing loss on Saturday. Despite going a goal up through an excellent finish from Stefan Payne, the Fleet allowed Aaron Williams to score a first-half hattrick to give Telford a 3-1 win - their first in thirty one matches - further boosting their chances of not finishing bottom. A low crowd turned out to see the match but the ones who were there made themselves heard as they protested against the owners who are dragging the Club down.

The Lambs failed miserably last time out in a match in which they were outplayed from start to finish. Despite taking the lead in the first half, two second half goals from Lincoln gave them a massive victory in their fight against relegation. Tamworth sit just two points above safety with two games to go. Lincoln moved up to 18th place and are four points above safety with just one game to go.

KEY PLAYERS:

Now already relegated, the players are just playing for pride. If he plays, the Fleet will certainly be hoping Nathan Elder is back to form. The goals have dried up recently for the striker and he'll be looking to get back on the scoresheet as soon as possible. Another player who will want to be on form is defender Paul Lorraine. Back from injury, the captain will be hoping he can recapture the form that he's shown so many times before. Unfortunately, it hasn't been too often this season.

Adam Cunnington is Tamworth's main dangerman. Since signing in the summer, the striker has been a revelation, hitting twenty goals so far as he sits second in the League's goalscoring chart. Another player who Tamworth look to is experienced Lee Hendrie. The former Aston Villa man has proved time and time again he is still a capable midfielder at this level, and they'll be hoping he causes the Fleet some problems on Tuesday.

TEAM NEWS:

The Fleet will be hoping Preston Edwards is fit, after the keeper missed the loss against Telford due to a slight shoulder strain. David Azin came on in that match for his debut and straight away showed some encouraging signs. The Fleet will be hoping he can continue, if he plays. Craig Stone missed the defeat against Telford due to a cut head suffered at Hyde, the full back will be hoping he is cleared to play. Liam Daish should have no fresh worries with his squad.

Tamworth captain Duane Courtney returns from his two-game suspension, while Scott Barrow is out injured. Tom Marshall and Jonathon Thorpe could be doubts.

21.01.09. Ebbsfleet United 0-1 Tamworth

LAST TIME OUT:

Saturday 27th October, 2012. Tamworth 0-1 Ebbsfleet United.

Tom Phipp scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time as the 'Fleet won their first League match since 8th September. Phil Walsh wasted a glorious chance for the 'Fleet early on as he rose up and headed onto the bar from less than 12 yards out. Phipp struck late on in the half as he was sent through and lobbed the keeper from just outside the box. There wasn't much in the second half in the way of chances, although Adam Cunnington did waste a good chance to equalise late on.

Attendance: 838.

We're all against MyFC...

We're all against MyFC...

A crazy Thursday night in the Pub started the rebellion against the 'organisation' that is known as MyFC. Everyone had had enough with MyFC and three individuals were just thinking of things that could be done to let them, and everybody else, know we want them gone. Within 24 hours they were backed by numerous people. MyFC said "oh, it'll probably just be the usual 5 or 6 people who want us gone". Well, they couldn't have been more wrong. We had gained over 100 followers on Twitter and had news feeds interested in our stories. We've been receiving support from fans of other clubs too, which has been great.

A petition was passed around on Saturday to see how many people want MyFC out. In just one day we managed to get close to 200 signatures from people who want them out. Telford fans were only too happy to sign our petition. Not only did they sign the petition but they were holding up the "MyFC OUT" cards, and even joined in with the anti-MyFC chanting. That's something you don't see very often these days. Fans uniting as one.

A few of the Telford fans who joined forces with us.
Just one of the Telford fans who signed.
The fans were in fine form behind the goal in the Ploughend. On a typical Saturday at Stonebridge Road you'd see maybe 10 people singing their hearts out for their team. This Saturday, however, was not normal. A group of around 30-35 (including the fine bunch of Telford fans) were there in full voice throughout the match, making their voices heard with the majority of chants aimed at the owners. Of course, we were in support of the bunch of lads on the pitch but we needed to make ourselves heard around the ground. Although there wouldn't have been many MyFC members attending the match (no shock really - they can't leave their laptops alone for a whole 90 minutes!), they would have been listening on the radio and would have heard us. Despite fans not being able to view match highlights, MyFC members can still view them via MyFC TV. When they are uploaded they will hear, and see what we think of them. The noise levels coming from the Ploughend were great, far louder than normal.

We have already had the Gravesend Messenger and Reporter coming to us for our stories. The Non-League Show and Five Live were also interested, and we also got brief mentions on Sky Sports News and Talk Sport. The News Shopper also mentioned us in their match report of the game: "Throughout the build-up to the game and after the final whistle there were strong protests from the fans against owners MyFC over their management of the ailing club". Everyone is becoming interested in what we are doing, and it won't be long until all the MyFC members see for themselves that it's not just "5 or 6", it is in fact the majority of the EUFC crowd.
The banners were made in quick time. Friday evening some plain white sheets were bought, Saturday afternoon the banners were designed. Everything had come together in 48 hours, everyone was backing us. It takes MyFC longer than 48 hours just to discover whether they want something to go to vote. We do not want these in charge of our Club. The banners were placed around Stonebridge Road for all to see. They are visible on the match highlights and cameramen were taking pictures of them.

MyFC out leaflets were handed out. We had some volunteers stationed outside the ground from 2pm who were handing these out to fans as they came up to the turnstiles. 400 in total were handed out and they were held up from the fifth minute (symbolising that MyFC have only lasted five years) and then people were just holding them up throughout the match. The Telford fans were happy, Fleet fans were happy, and most of all, we were getting our point across! We, together, have done more in 48 hours than what MyFC have done in five years. We have got the fans on side and we know exactly what we want and how we're going to do it. MyFC have nothing.

Even Hooky wants them gone.

On the back of the leaflets was a message from an EUFC fan. The message can be seen below:

"Dear fan, follower, supporter or admirer of the Fleet,

It is a desperate time for our club. The owners of the club can no longer afford us but they do not wish to let us go. The club told them at the beginning of March that they needed to raise £50k to cover the cost, inclusive of wages, bills etc, of running the club. The rumour is that they got nowhere near it.

The players and club staff were not paid their wages at the end of March. They were eventually paid 25% twice over 2 weeks as the club managed to scrape some money together and now as things stand the staff don't know when they'll receive the final 50% of their wages or any of their wages for April. How are the players expected to afford the petrol to turn up to games for us to cheer them on, let alone anything else like paying their own bills or feeding their families?

At the beginning of April MyFC received an offer from a man named Carlos Kabir Karani. His business plan is a simple one, he plans to fill the squad with young international players and hopes to showcase them at Stonebridge Road and sell them on to potential clubs looking to buy. A crazy idea, perhaps, it is an unproven plan that has possible holes and may not work out but at least it's a plan. He's offering to cover the shortfall for this month and has a plan on working on the debt.
MyFC don’t have a plan. They’re reluctant to let their toy go and have questioned, debated, ridiculed, abused and insulted Carlos and his idea and now he is talking about backing out.

The future of this club is unclear, will a new investor take the club on and we'll be okay or will we fold into the oblivion of liquidation, phoenix clubs and applying for the Kent league? If it's the latter then MyFC would definitely find us easier to manage as we remain shackled to them.

Today you, the fans of the Fleet have the opportunity to have your say and we're not asking for you to sign up to a website and click yes, no or abstain. Just hold up your sign and let them know who the true owners are of this club and tell them that you want MyFC out.

Up the Fleet"

Following on from this fine speech; the players have not been paid, and probably will not be paid. Although a lot of the players have jobs on the side, I spoke to one player on Saturday and playing for the Fleet is his only job! How is he expected to pay out getting to Stonebridge Road two-three times a week as well as feeding himself and others around him? He must be struggling with every day that passes, but he still gives 100% in every game he plays.

Fleet against MyFC
Carlos Kabir Karani has big plans for EUFC. He's a very passionate man and in his short time watching EUFC games and having meetings with the Club, he has shown just how interested he is. One of the chants from the Ploughend on Saturday was "Stand up, if you love the Club". Carlos was one of the first on his feet. His proposal may only be short, he may have difficulties communicating with members online but he's shown in person he can communicate. He knows what he wants, and most importantly, he knows what he is doing. MyFC do not. They don't have a plan for the future, in fact, they never really had a plan at all. We are fully behind Carlos and won't stop backing him. It appears he is the "man of the moment".

As it says in the speech, these are desperate times for the Club and we want you all to continue with us in backing the campaign against MyFC. We are going to be continuing our campaign online and at matches. A third twitter account has been set up and the Facebook page is still going strong. The new Twitter account is @our_fleet and you can find us on Facebook by searching Fleet against MyFC.

Under the spotlight with... Mark Ricketts!

After a considerable amount of time out, Under the Spotlight is back, and former Fleet fan favourite Mark Ricketts was happy to answer a few questions! I'd like to thank Mark for contributing to The Fleet Adventures. After leaving the Fleet in 2009, Mark joined Woking and has been there since. An established member of the Woking team (now captain I believe) Mark has gone on to become a firm fan favourite there too. Outside of Football, Mark is a personal trainer and has recently become a father after his wife gave birth to a little girl in the early hours of Sunday (14 April) morning. I'd like to congratulate them both, and I am sure many other Fleet and Woking fans will echo the same thoughts.

Mark Ricketts
Date of Birth: 07/10/84
Place of Birth: Sidcup
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Current Club: Woking FC
Former Clubs: Charlton Athletic, Milton Keynes Dons, Ebbsfleet.

What was your first footballing memory? My first memory is playing in the back garden with my dad as a kid, taking shots at him in a little goal I had.

You've had long spells at your present club, and your previous club. What is it about the clubs that have made you stay? I've just found myself to be very happy at both these clubs from the moment I arrived. They are both very family orientated and have good fan bases. I think its also a lot to do with the players in the team as well, as at both clubs we've always had a good bunch of ambitious lads.

Who are your friends in football? I've got quite a few friends in football now as I've been playing for quite a while. My closest pals are Neil Barrett, Dean Pooley and Stacy Long all of which I was lucky enough to play in the same team as when at Ebbsfleet.

You've played frequently in both defence and midfield, what position would you say brings the best out of you? I would say my best position is midfield playing that defensive role. I would have liked to have played there a lot more during my time at Ebbsfleet.

You've had a bit of a tough time previously with knee, and leg injuries. Do you feel that you have come back stronger from these? Injuries can be a big test of character especially ones that put you out for a significant period of time. You can question yourself and whether you can get yourself right again but I've found this has definitely made me stronger and given me more self belief especially when you know some people may have doubted you and you prove them wrong.

Also, do you ever worry that your previous injuries could occur again and spell an early end to your career? Its not something you can worry about as a footballer as it might not even be a previous injury that can spell an early end to your career it could be a completely new injury so you just have to get on with it and enjoy every moment and give it your all every time you go out on the pitch.

What is the best advice that you have received, and who was it from? Tough question as there has been many positive influences in my career. My parents always wish me luck before a game and always say enjoy it and to be honest this is great advice as its a game after all and I'm lucky to be doing something I love and its very easy to get caught up in the stress of it all.

Liam Daish is one of the most well respected managers in the lower leagues. What do you think makes him so well liked and respected? He's played the game himself at a good level which I think gets him some respect but he has also achieved a lot in a relatively short time at Ebbsfleet in winning the trophy and getting promoted from the Conference South. This has all been done on what wasn't a massive budget compared to a lot of clubs in this league too.

Who would you say has been the biggest influence in your life? Deep! I would say my parents. They are both very laid back and just encourage me at everything I do and I think that rubs off on me. They've been there for me at every stage of my footballing life too whether it be driving me round the M25 3 times a week when I was 10 years old or supporting me in the stand on a Saturday now.

Your one and only goal for the Fleet was an absolute beauty, tell us about this.

This would be the Wrexham screamer you're alluding too! I was playing midfield in this game and it was my last season at Ebbsfleet. I picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and managed to wriggle past a player or two before coming to the edge of the box and shifted it onto my left foot, I then just smashed it as best I could and it went top corner in off the bar. Thats how I remember it in my head anyway!

How did it feel not playing a part in the Fleet's victory at Wembley? I was gutted but it makes me hungrier to get there again.

Did the victory soften that blow of not playing? Maybe a little but it was a strange mix of emotions!

What is the best match that you've played in? There's been a few but we (Woking) played Brighton who at the time were top of League One in a replay at home in the FA Cup 1st round and that was one hell of a game taking them eventually to penalties where unfortunately we lost.

You have already had some memorable times as part of the Woking FC. What do you feel the club has to offer going into the near future? The club is very ambitious but also very well run and in this age of football stability and financial security are very important with so many clubs spending beyond their means. I think Woking can push on in this league and be very competitive in the top half but it has to be done sensibly and I think there are many exciting times ahead for the club.

How do you look back on your time at Ebbsfleet? Would you ever return to the club? I loved my time at the club, I made some very good friends and really enjoyed my time there being involved in such successful team. I would never rule out returning one day.

No English clubs in the Champions League Quarter Final for the first time in almost 20 years. What do you make of this? I think its just a blip to be honest I'd be surprised if it was the same next year.

Money is no object. Which Blue Square Bet Premier player would you have at Woking, and why? Neil Barrett, he's an honest, hard working player who wants to win and is very composed on the ball. Shame about his banter though!

After a match, what are the first results you look out for?  I tend to check how the teams my mates play for have got on (Ebbsfleet, AFC Wimbledon, Margate etc)

Who is the best player in the World right now? Messi
Ricko in action for Woking

The current Woking squad. Who's the joker? Aaron Howe, The brainiac? Definitely me! The loudest? Joe Mac [Joe McNerney] grunting before a game in the showers (Odd Guy!!) The quickest? Me/Bubbsy

Who are the best players you've played with, and against? Di Canio and Scott Parker were pretty good to play with. Against… Van Persie maybe

Do you have any regrets in your footballing career? Not staying longer at MK Dons when I was on loan there

Was being a footballer always your dream, or was there something else? Nope that was always my dream

Finally, sum up your career so far in one word. Rollercoaster

Fleet Against MyFC

Following on from a previous piece I wrote, it appears My Football Club have an even stronger hold on Ebbsfleet United Football Club.

"MyFootballClub - Proud owners of Ebbsfleet United 2008-2013" is what they say, however I'm not sure if someone mentioned the fact that owning something means you fund it. That's right, MyFC are unable to fund the Club they supposedly own but are intent on dragging the Club down to a suitable level in which they can fund the Club at. Pure guesswork, but I reckon by the time they've finished with us they'll have us playing in the Sunday Leagues up Kings Farm!

Recently an offer has been put to MyFC by a Mr.Carlos Karani Kabir, to purchase a controlling stake in Ebbsfleet United Football Club. Unfortunately for Mr. Carlos, the members at MyFC seem happy enough in attacking him online and making him sound the bad guy. Despite Carlos offering the Club some stability and keeping the Club away from the massive debts they find themselves in at the moment, MyFC are not willing to put this to vote as of yet. "We are unsure whether Carlos is good for the future of EUFC" is their main reasoning behind it, however Carlos is offering something that MyFC will never be able to offer!

As things stand, the players have not been paid in full for March and they'll be struggling to pay them for April. The Club are predicted to make a massive loss for the month of April, and MyFC members still believe they can help EUFC. They've never helped us. It was one big dream that could never be reality. The Club are facing administration in the near future. We will lose Liam Daish, other staff and all of the players. We'll start the Conference South season with -10 points and will be placed under a transfer embargo. The Club could face another relegation and we'll not see the Conference Premier again for a very long time.

MyFC claim the credit for Ebbsfleet's success at Wembley, yet now the Club have been relegated and the financial troubles are getting worse - One MyFC member had this to say: "Well, the players are one of the main reasons we are in this mess financially". Do we really want members like this in control of OUR Club?! No! One MyFC member has stated that Carlos should buy MyFC's 75% stake for £250,000. The Club are in debt, MyFC are worth nothing, yet they feel they are entitled to get a healthy sum of money for killing OUR Football Club?

Carlos can keep the Club afloat, fans can still continue to raise funds for long-term stability and the Club will live on. Something MyFC members do not realise is, MyFC will live on too, albeit somewhere else other than EUFC. 30,000 members to begin with, the cut-off point in which they could no longer fund the club was believed to be 15,000 members. It is now below 1,000! Do we really want these internet warriors associated with our Club? The answer is no. Do the right thing for once and sell to Carlos!

It's time to go. Your experiment failed miserably. Walk away with what little 'pride' you feel you have left, go and play elsewhere. I think I speak on behalf of every genuine EUFC fan here, when I say "We want MyFC out". You are doing far more harm to the Club than you are good, please walk away.

Fleet against MyFC. Back the campaign. We are all against the organisation that is harming our Club, we need as many of you to back us!

Ebbsfleet United v AFC Telford; A 'relegation party'

Numquam Obliviscere - Never Forget

Ebbsfleet United v AFC Telford United

Stonebridge Road plays host to a 'relegation party' of sort this Saturday, as all but relegated Ebbsfleet host already relegated Telford.

Despite being able to draw level with the team outside of the relegation zone if all results went their way, the Fleet's awful goal difference prevents this from happening. The Fleet will be mathematically relegated on Saturday.

On what has been a disastrous season for the Reds, a loss against Telford would really top it off. The Bucks haven't won for a massive thirty matches this season, their last win coming at Dartford on October 9.

AFC Telford United
Founded - 2004
Nickname - The Bucks
Ground - New Bucks Head
Manager - John Psaras (caretaker)
Captain - Ryan Valentine
Top Scorer - Steve Jones (10)

AFC Telford United were formed in 2004 by a Supporters' Trust after former club Telford United were forced into liquidation. The new club were given a Latin motto to live by; numquam obliviscere. This is translated to "never forget". The club were placed in the Northern Premier Division One and two promotions in three seasons saw them begin the 2007-08 season in the Conference North. Telford's first promotion was a 2-1 victory over Kendal Town, watched by 4,215 spectators; a record high for that Division. After a few seasons in the Conference North, AFC Telford finally achieved promotion back to the Conference Premier (the League Telford United were in before being liquidated). 5,436 turned out to watch the Bucks in the play-off final against Guiseley. The club survived the first season but were relegated with plenty of games to spare this season after a 3-0 home defeat to rivals Nuneaton Town. Telford will begin the 2013-14 season back in the Conference North.

AFC Telford had a fairly good start to the season, and after their 4-1 win away at Dartford they sat comfortably in eight position in the table with 21 points. Sadly for the Bucks, they have not won a game since and have picked up just eleven points. They sit bottom of the table with 32 points and are already relegated. On the Cup front, the Bucks were eliminated early in both the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. They were eliminated by Nuneaton at the first hurdle of the FA Cup. Despite beating their rivals in the first round of the FA Trophy, they were knocked out by lowly Kings Lynn Town in the next round.

The Fleet's relegation was all but confirmed on Tuesday as they lost 1-0 to Hyde, despite playing against ten men for the whole of the second half. Hyde took the lead through Matty Blinkhorn on the stroke of half-time just after Liam Enver-Marum had hit the bar at the other end. The ten men of Hyde stood firm to get the three points, thus making themselves safe in the process. The Fleet remain second from bottom and only four big-margin victories and those above losing, will prevent the Fleet from relegation. The Fleet players are now just playing for pride and the Club will be hoping for another successful season at Conference South level.

Telford were unable to record a victory against the side they last beat as they lost at home to Dartford. On-loan Charlie Sheringham scored one and created one for the visitors as they secured their place in the Blue Square Bet Premier for another season. Despite their certain relegation and long winless run, a crowd of over 1,300 against Dartford was excellent for the Bucks. They remain bottom and with just two games remaining, the Bucks will be hoping to secure a win before they begin life in the Conference North.

KEY PLAYERS:

The Fleet's two most consistent players of late are Preston Edwards and Tom Phipp. Despite the Fleet only winning one of their last twelve matches, the young shot stopper has been in good form and the scorelines would have been far worse had it not been for him. After an inconsistent season, a spell out of the side was just what midfielder Tom Phipp needed. Since he's returned to the side he has looked a far better player.

Although it could be nigh on impossible to pick a standout player from Telford's squad, you have to give a mention to Phil Trainer. The midfielder is one of the players who gives 100% in most games and is one of the only passionate players in the squad. Keeper Ryan Young has produced a few good performances too.

TEAM NEWS:

It is unknown whether captain Paul Lorraine is back for the Fleet. He went off injured at Braintree and has not been involved since. Edwards has been stand-in captain in his absence. Moses Ashikodi is back to 100% fitness. Craig Stone had to have some stitches on Tuesday night after suffering a head injury at Hyde, the Fleet will be hoping he is available for selection. Ubay Luzardo once again came off the bench on Tuesday night, and midfielder David Azin is available for selection after his clearance was given. He has not made it into Daish's squad of 16 thus far. Stefan Payne is available for selection after serving his three-game ban.

Telford have a few doubts in their squad. Captain Ryan Valentine may not be available for selection. Goalkeeper Young has been captain in his absence. Michael Briscoe is out injured and Ian Craney, Luke Hubbins and Steve Jones could all be doubts.Dan Preston and Richard Davies could also miss out due to injury. One player who will more than likely be involved is former Fleet full back Will Salmon.

EBBSFLEET'S LAST SIX MATCHES (LDDLLD):

Hyde 1-0 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 1-1 Nuneaton Town
Barrow AFC 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Braintree Town 3-1 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 0-2 Forest Green Rovers
Cambridge United 1-1 Ebbsfleet United

TELFORD'S LAST SIX MATCHES (LDLLLL):

AFC Telford United 0-2 Dartford
Forest Green Rovers 0-0 AFC Telford United
AFC Telford United 0-3 Nuneaton Town (Telford were relegated)
Lincoln City 3-2 AFC Telford United
Macclesfield Town 2-1 AFC Telford United
Woking 5-2 AFC Telford United

PREVIOUS LEAGUE MEETINGS:

The two clubs have met three times since the new club were formed in May 2004. The Fleet winning two of them, and one ending in a draw. The two sides met plenty of times as Telford United and Gravesend and Northfleet. The first meeting was a 2-2 draw in September 1971 and the last time the sides met before the new club and name changes was a 1-1 draw in April 2004.

06.11.12. AFC Telford United 2-2 Ebbsfleet United.
14.04.12. Ebbsfleet United 3-2 AFC Telford United.
15.10.11. AFC Telford United 0-2 Ebbsfleet United.
10.04.04. Telford United 1-1 Gravesend and Northfleet.
23.08.03. Gravesend and Northfleet 1-2 Telford United.

LAST TIME OUT:

06.11.12. AFC Telford United 2-2 Ebbsfleet United.

The Fleet twice came from behind to gain a well deserved draw, although they needed some late heroics from Preston Edwards to make sure they got the point.

After facing a long trip to Carlisle the Saturday before in the FA Cup, the Fleet had to travel to Shropshire to face Telford, who were sitting comfortably in the top twelve. The Bucks took the lead in the 6th minute of the match when Steve Jones headed home Steven Leslie's cross. The lead didn't last long however, as Nathan Elder equalised just two minutes later from Ashley Carew's pass. Jones scored his second midway through the first half with a finish low into the goal. The Bucks went into half-time with a deserved lead but the Fleet came back at them and they got their reward ten minutes into the second half when Elder got his second from the spot, after Carew was fouled. Patrick Ada gave the hosts a chance to win the game from the spot with just a couple of minutes left on the clock. Jones stepped up and Edwards dived to his right to stop Jones from scoring his hattrick.

Attendance: 1,542.

Hyde v Ebbsfleet United

Ebbsfleet look to avoid relegation for a little while longer as they face another long mid-week trip.

The Fleet will travel to Hyde knowing that a loss and wins for Nuneaton and Lincoln will all but seal their fate.

Hyde FC
Founded - 1885
Nickname - The Tigers
Ground - Ewen Fields
Manager - Scott McNiven
Captain - Adam Griffin
Top Scorer - Phil Jevons (15)

Hyde FC were formed in 1885 and joined the Lancashire and Cheshire Football Federation as Hyde United in 1919. A year later Hyde joined the Manchester League and by 1930, they had won it five times. Hyde's record attendance came in 1952, when 7,600 fans turned up to watch a match against Nelson FC. In 1955, Hyde made their first appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, only to lose 5-1 to Workington. At that point, Workington were managed by the legend that is Bill Shankly.  In 1968, Hyde became founder members of the Northern Premier League, but couldn't commit to the cost of travelling so went back to the Cheshire League. After twelve years in the Cheshire League, the club were elected into the Northern Premier League. In 2005, United won promotion to the Conference North for the first time in their history. On 24 September, 2009 Hyde United were officially 'wound up' with debts of around £120,000. However, just six days later this decision was reversed. A monumental effort by club officials, supporters and fans meant that they raised enough money to lodge an appeal against the decision. Some of the money raised included a bucket collection at a Manchester City Premier League match. The club finished that season in 15th, ensuring safety. The start of the following season saw a change at Ewen Fields. The club changed their name back to Hyde FC, and changed the colour of their kit to White shirt with Blue shorts as part of a sponsorship deal with Manchester City. 2011/12 was a great year for the Tigers. They were promoted the the top of Non-League for the first time in their history. Manager Gary Lowe and assistant Martyn Booty resigned paving the way for Scott McNiven and Gavin McCann to come in. On what is believed to be the lowest budget in the League, you have to admire the work McNiven has done. The Tigers have a whole host of Football-League experience amongst their squad, with players such as Phil Jevons, Adam Griffin, Matty Blinkhorn and Chris Sedgwick in the side.

An excellent five match winning streak in March saw the Tigers rise up the League and are now all but safe.

Two goals in three minutes were enough to give Braintree all three points at Ewen Fields. James Mulley put the visitors ahead three minutes before half-time and then turned provider as he set up on-loan Ben Wright right on the stroke of half-time. Hyde fought back valiantly but could only reduce the defecit to one when Jamie Milligan struck home seven minutes from time. The Tigers sit in 14th place in the table and although they are only four points ahead of the drop zone, one more win should be enough to secure safety in the Blue Square Premier.

After throwing away two points away at Barrow, the Fleet threw away another two points on Saturday as they drew at home to Nuneaton. The hosts took the lead ten minutes before the interval when Tom Phipp's volley looped into the net, but Town's top scorer Andy Brown equalised in the last minute of the match. Too many times this season the Fleet have been unable to hold onto leads. The Fleet remain in 23rd position and are edging closer to relegation.

KEY PLAYERS:

Hyde look to on-loan Louis Almond. Since joining from Blackpool in February, the striker was instrumental in Hyde's five match winning streak. The youngster has picked up the Blue Square Bet Premier 'player of the month' award for March. His goal against Hereford has been described as "Bergkamp-esque". Another player who has been playing well for the Tigers is midfielder Scott Hogan. Since signing, he's scored three goals and made four assists in just eight appearances. They'll certainly be hoping they can keep hold of him!

Tom Phipp has been playing well for the Fleet lately. A short spell out of the side and a few games playing in defence, the midfielder has stepped up to the plate well and he's beginning to show signs of the form we saw from him in the Blue Square Bet South. Liam Enver-Marum certainly hasn't had the best season of his career, but recently the striker has looked interested. He's been chasing down balls, getting into good positions and is hungry for goals. The Fleet will be hoping he can return to the form that saw him hit thirteen goals last season.

TEAM NEWS:

Hyde are without Josh Brizell who is serving the second of a three-game suspension, and Alex Brown could be a doubt as he's picked up a virus. Hyde midfielder Mark Allott has retired from the game. The thirty-six year old has been restricted to just five starts since joining in January, due to injury and illness. He's going to be focusing on Coaching his academy. On-loan midfielder Liam Tomsett is one yellow card away from picking up a suspension as he's accumulated nine yellow cards this term.

Moses Ashikodi started his first match since November on Saturday, and will be looking to return to the scoresheet sooner rather than later. Full-back Craig Stone made his return from the subs bench and new signing Ubay Luzardo came on for his debut. He'll be hoping to get a start soon.

HYDE'S LAST SIX MATCHES (LDWWWW):

Hyde 1-2 Braintree Town
Barrow AFC 1-1 Hyde
Hyde 2-0 Wrexham
Hyde 2-1 Cambridge United
Hereford United 1-2 Hyde
Hyde 3-0 Dartford

EBBSFLEET'S LAST SIX MATCHES (DDLLDW):

Ebbsfleet United 1-1 Nuneaton Town
Barrow AFC 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Braintree Town 3-1 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 0-2 Forest Green Rovers
Cambridge United 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 4-1 Southport

PREVIOUS LEAGUE MEETINGS:

The two clubs have never been in the same division up until now, meaning there has only been one meeting between the sides. The Fleet ran out winners after a magnificent comeback.

10.11.12. Ebbsfleet United 3-2 Hyde

LAST TIME OUT:

10.11.12. Ebbsfleet United 3-2 Hyde.

Hyde came out of the blocks racing into a two goal lead, with goals from Ryan Crowther and Matty Blinkhorn. It was too easy for the Hyde attack, but fortunately they didn't score any more. Midfielder Neil Barrett reduced the defecit ten minutes from the break and Elder levelled with 72 minutes gone. Matt Godden had come on for his debut, and the youngster was on the scoresheet straight away as he got in behind the defence to smash home the winner with eleven minutes left. The Fleet held on for the win and moved five points above their opponents.

Ebbsfleet United v Nuneaton Town

Ebbsfleet United v Nuneaton Town

Ebbsfleet look to avoid slipping further away from safety on Saturday as they face fellow relegation battlers Nuneaton Town at Stonebridge Road.

Nuneaton Town FC
Founded - 1889 (as Nuneaton St. Nicholas - Reformed again in 2008)
Nickname - The Boro
Ground - Liberty Way
Manager - Kevin Wilkin
Captain - Gareth Dean
Top Scorer - Andy Brown (16)

Founded in 1889, the club changed their name to Nuneaton Town just five years later. Town were founder members of the North Warwickshire League. Up until 1937, the club played in a number of league's including the Nuneaton League, Coventry and North Warwick League, Birmingham Junior League, Birmingham and District League and Southern League. Nuneaton Town disbanded in 1937, but just two days later Nuneaton Borough FC was formed. The club played at former Nuneaton Town ground Manor Park and took on numerous Nuneaton Town youngsters. In 1979, Town were one of the founder members of the Alliance Premier League (now the Conference). Back to back relegations in the late eighties, and off field problems put Town back below the Southern Premier League. A new board of directors took over in 1991 and this lead to a name change - to Nuneaton Borough A.F.C. In 1993, they got their nickname 'The Boro' after years of being called 'the Nuns' and 'Town' and in 1995 they played rivals Bedworth United for the first time in sixteen years. With a crowd of 5,204 at Bedworth's ground, 4,000 of those were thought to have been Nuneaton fans. Borough had their best FA Cup run in the 2005/06 season when they beat AFC Telford United, Chelmsford City, Tiverton Town, Ramsgate and Histon on route to a home tie against Middlesbrough. The home side were delighted when Gez Murphy scored a last-minute penalty to equalize. Middlesbrough won the replay 5-2, but it was a run Boro could be proud of, and in particular, Murphy. The striker had scored three goals in two matches against Middlesbrough. In May 2007, Borough played their last match at Manor Park - a 1-1 draw against Vauxhall Motors - before moving into Liberty way. The club went into liquidation in June 2008, but then reformed again as Nuneaton Town FC and started off in the Southern League Division One Midlands. The club completed their return to the top of non-league in 2010-11 when they gained promotion to the Conference again via the play-offs.

A near 650-mile round trip on a Wednesday night is something no team wants to experience, but when you have a small part-time squad with players who are due to start work early the next morning, and are delayed by baked beans, it's absolutely awful. Ebbsfleet faced the daunting trip to Barrow on Wednesday night and it was made even worse by a lorry containing baked beans spilling it's load all over the M6! The match was scheduled for 7:45pm kick-off but the Fleet team coach didn't arrive until 8:40, giving them a fiften minute warm-up before a 9:05pm kick-off! Despite the late arrival and lack of warm-up, it was the Fleet who were out of the blocks and raring to go. The visitors tested the Barrow keeper multiple times, but he was in fine form, making some excellent saves. He was beaten, however, when a Gareth Gwillim corner was headed in by centre-back Phil Walsh. Right on the stroke of half-time, you'd think it would have spurred the Fleet on when they came out for the second half, but it was Bluebirds who come out all guns blazing. Most of their shots went harmlessly wide, or over, but the Fleet just couldn't hold out. Top scorer Adam Boyes' left footed strike late on in the game gave Preston Edwards no chance of saving it. It was close to 11:00pm when the match eventually finished, and a draw did neither side any favours. The Fleet remain in 23rd position and are ten points from safety. The Fleet will look to win to try and close the gap a little.

Nuneaton could probably count themselves a little unlucky in their last match as they hosted promotion chasing Newport County. Despite having the better of the first half, Town could only go into the break with a one goal lead, courtesy of Simon Forsdick. County manager Justin Edinburgh had some stern words for his side at half-time and it worked. Substitute Robbie Willmott brought the visitors level with a 25-yard free-kick and James Armson headed into his own net to give County all three points. Nuneaton sit one place, and one point outside of the the relegation zone and will want to win the game to get a little further away from the bottom four.

KEY PLAYERS:

The Fleet will look to Preston Edwards to keep out the visiting attack. The shot stopper has been in good form and is a vital part of the Fleet side. Liam Enver-Marum will need to show the form the Fleet fans saw from him last season. With Matt Godden back at parent club Scunthorpe, Nathan Elder and Stefan Payne suspended, that leaves him and Moses Ashikodi as the only senior strikers in the squad.

Andy Brown is one of the best players in the Town squad. With sixteen goals to his name, he'll be looking to add to his tally against the Fleet. Simon Forsdick is another player who will be key in the run-in as they look to escape the drop. The influential midfielder has made over 30 appearances this season and will look to help his team grab a vital three points in their battle against relegation.

TEAM NEWS:

The Fleet are without Nathan Elder who picked up a red card against Barrow, and Stefan Payne who serves the second of a three-game suspension. Long-term absentee came on against Barrow for five minutes in what was his first appearance since the beginning of December. It is believed that full-back Craig Stone could nearing full fitness.

Captain Mark Noon has been missing all season with a serious leg break. Stand-in captain Gareth Dean will miss the trip to Ebbsfleet after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season on Monday. Manager Kevin Wilkin should have a near full squad to choose from.

EBBSFLEET'S LAST SIX MATCHES (DLLDWL):

Barrow AFC 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Braintree Town 3-1 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 0-2 Forest Green Rovers
Cambridge United 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United 4-1 Southport
Alfreton Town 3-0 Ebbsfleet United

NUNEATON'S LAST SIX MATCHES (LWDLDW):

AFC Telford United 0-3 Nuneaton Town
Nuneaton Town 0-0 Woking
Mansfield Town 1-0 Nuneaton Town

PREVIOUS LEAGUE MEETINGS:

The Fleet have met Nuneaton numerous times over the years, but have only played them once since their reformation in 2008. The first meeting between the two sides came in September 1959 at Manor Park. Nuneaton ran out 4-2 winners. The Fleet lead the head-to-head with nine wins to Nuneaton's seven. Seven matches have been drawn.

11.08.12. Nuneaton Town 4-5 Ebbsfleet United
14.12.02. Nuneaton Borough 0-1 Gravesend and Northfleet
07.09.02. Gravesend and Northfleet 4-1 Nuneaton Borough
15.03.97. Gravesend and Northfleet 1-1 Nuneaton Borough
28.09.96. Nuneaton Borough 3-0 Gravesend and Northfleet

LAST TIME OUT:

Saturday 11 August, 2012. Nuneaton Town 4-5 Ebbsfleet United.

The Fleet were optimistic before the season started. The squad was similar to the one that ended last season in 14th. This was the best match the Fleet have been involved in all season.

Nuneaton raced into a nineteen minute two lead with goals from Andy Brown and Adam Walker, but goals from Tom Phipp, Nathan Elder, Liam Enver-Marum and Moses Ashikodi put the Fleet 2-4 up with 50 minutes gone. Robbie Thompson-Brown's goal six minutes later gave the hosts hope, but a great finish from Tom Phipp with two minutes to go put the visitors 3-5 ahead. Andy Brown scored a late penalty to make up for his earlier miss from twelve yards. The game ended 4-5, although it could have been more! The Fleet sat second in the table after the first round of games, it's gone completely down hill from then.

Attendance: 1,088.

Barrow AFC 1-1 Ebbsfleet United

Adam Boyes' late strike left the Fleet wondering how they weren't able to win the game.

Phil Walsh had earlier put the visitors ahead when he headed home a corner, but Boyes' goal denied the Fleet what would have been a much needed, and well deserved three points. Just like the game at Braintree on bank holiday Monday, the Fleet ended the game with ten men after Nathan Elder was sent off during the second half.

With the Fleet having postponements on route to games this season, losing games they should have won and just having general bad luck, you really couldn't predict what was going to happen next in luck department. You'd have been a millionaire by now if you had placed a bet on the next installment. Not only was the Fleet team coach held up early on in the journey due to a crash, they were held up for a long period of time on the M6 due to numerous tins of Heinz Baked Beans all over the road. That's right, a lorry carrying tins of baked beans had spilt it's load all over the motorway. Unfortunately, the team coach was stuck around Merseyside for the best part of two hours.

The coach finally arrived at Holker Street at around 8:30pm, and the team had around fifteen minutes to warm up before the kick-off at 9:05pm. Manager Liam Daish was forced into a few changes from the defeat at Braintree. Jack Saville came in for Paul Lorraine, Nathan Elder came in for Matt Godden after the striker had been recalled by parent club Scunthorpe, and Neil Barrett came in for the suspended Stefan Payne. New signing Merrick James-Lewis was on the bench.

Despite all the inconveniences, the Fleet surprisingly started the better side. It took just a couple of minutes for the first chance to arrive; Liam Enver-Marum's shot was tipped over by man of the match Danny Hurst. The resulting corner from Gareth Gwillim was headed just wide by Elder. Ashley Carew sent a free-kick wide from just outside the area.

The game then became a bit scrappy, with both sides getting forward without really creating anything. Both sides were getting crosses into the box but both defences head firm with their clearances.

Hurst was there once again half hour into the match, as he saved another shot from Enver-Marum. Barrow begun to threaten with hattrick hero from the reverse fixture Richie Baker having a shot saved by Preston Edwards, and just two minutes later he saw his goal-bound effort blocked by Jack Saville.

Tom Phipp got in on the action as he saw his effort tipped over by Hurst and Liam Bellamy almost headed in at the far post to give the Fleet the lead. The midfielder spent some time off the field for what looked to be a collision with the post. Once again, Gwillim's corners were hitting the target every time and Walsh got on the end of one just after the half-hour mark but he saw his header go wide of the post.

The central defender did get his reward four minutes later though, as yet another great delivery from the left back found Walsh who headed home from six yards out. Despite getting a touch to the ball, the in-form Barrow keeper had finally been beaten! The sixteen Fleet fans who had stationed themselves in one corner of the ground were going nuts, and they were entitled to. Four of them even braved the freezing cold by going topless for five minutes until the end of the first half.

HT: 0-1. The Fleet go into the break with a well deserved lead. The Bluebirds will be thanking 'keeper Danny Hurst for the scoreline being as low as it is.

Danny L Rowe came on for the start of the second half and replaced Joe Owen, and whatever manager Dave Bayliss said at half-time it worked. The Bluebirds made it more of a game in the second half creating numerous chances. Rowe sent his effort wide from inside the area.

Enver-Marum saw his effort from just outside the box go wide before Barrow had a slight flurry of chances. Boyes' effort was blocked by Saville, resulting in a corner. Adam Dawson saw his effort blocked before Garry Hunter saw his effort go over the bar from just outside the box. The Fleet had gone from being by far the better side, to backs against the wall and a Barrow goal was definitely on the cards.

Elder saw his effort blocked by Mike Pearson before the Bluebirds were in again. Boyes had two efforts saved by Edwards before Sean McConville hit two efforts wide of the goal. Elder and Hunter were both booked for an altercation on the edge of the pitch.

Paul Rutherford sent a shot over, just minutes after entering the fray, before McConville wasted yet another chance as he sent a shot over the bar.

Hurst made yet another save from Phipp's drilled effort and the Bluebirds finally supported Hurst's excellent work between the sticks. Rutherford's pass found Boyes on the edge of the area, and his left footed shot was put out of Edwards' reach into the bottom corner. One all, and Barrow looked the better of the two sides at that point.

Three minutes later, things became even tougher for the Fleet when top scorer Nathan Elder was sent off for yet another challenge on Hunter. Those two were at each other's throats for most of the game.

Enver-Marum had two shots blocked and another well saved by Hurst. Not even the long-awaited return of striker Moses Ashikodi could bring the Fleet the winning goal.

Four minutes of time were added, and the Bluebirds were the only team who looked like scoring. Fortunately for the Fleet, Barrow proved wasteful in front of goal.

FT: 1-1. Close to 11pm and the game is all over. A point really does no favours for either side. Barrow edge a point closer to safety while the Fleet remain second from bottom and are now ten points from safety with games in hand on those above them. Barrow host title contenders Mansfield on Saturday while the Fleet have yet another relegation battle when they host Nuneaton.

Barrow AFC v Ebbsfleet United

Barrow AFC v Ebbsfleet United

The Fleet make their longest trip of the season on Wednesday evening as they travel to Cumbria to face fellow strugglers Barrow.

This match was originally scheduled for Saturday 23 March but heavy overnight snow in the area forced the game to be postponed. It proved to be a wasted trip for the Fleet squad as they travelled up Friday lunch-time.

Barrow AFC
Founded - 1901
Nickname - The Bluebirds
Ground - Holker Street (named the Furness Building Society Stadium for the 2012-13 season)
Manager - David Bayliss
Captain - Gavin Skelton
Top scorer - Adam Boyes (12)

Barrow, founded in 1901, have only been in the non-league pyramid since 1973. The club played in the Lanacashire Combination League. Their last season (1920-21) in this league culminated in them winning it. Then came the formation of the Football League Third Division North; Barrow were one of the founder members. The 1953-54 season saw Barrow's record crowd attendance at Holker Street; 16,784 turned up to see Barrow face Swansea City in the FA Cup. Barrow's poor finances, amongs other things, were the reason they were voted out of the Football League in the 1972-73. The club have been in non-league since. The Bluebirds were promoted to the Conference Premier in the 2007-08 season after beating Stalybridge in the Conference North Play-Off final, and in 2009-10, the Club won the FA Trophy for the second time in their History beating Stevenage in the final. Their first victory came in 1990, beating Leek Town in the final.

Barrow, like the Fleet, have been struggling at the wrong end of the table all season. It took them until September 8 to pick up their first win; a 1-3 victory away at Tamworth. The Bluebirds have recorded some huge losses this season, including 8-1 and 6-1 losses away at Mansfield and Luton respectively. Despite this they have picked up some impressive results including a 0-2 win away at promotion chasing Newport County and a 1-0 win at home to Luton. On the Cup front, the Bluebirds have been fairly successful. In the FA Trophy they made it to the fourth round before losing to Gainsborough Trinity of the Conference North. The Cumbrian outfit made it to the second round of the FA Cup before losing 4-1 in the replay to Macclesfield, after drawing the initial game 1-1.

Barrow faced in-form Hyde at Holker Street in their last match. The Tigers had recorded five wins on the trot so it was always going to be tough for the Bluebirds, and so it proved as just two minutes into the match Scott Hogan found the bottom corner to give the visitors the early lead. Barrow fought back and got a deserved equaliser when Mike Pearson's volley found the net. Things got better for the Bluebirds in the 31st minute when Hyde defender Josh Brizell was shown a red card for serious foul play. Despite the man advantage and far more chances than their opponents, Barrow couldn't get that all important second goal. Barrow remain third from bottom but just two points from safety with a game in hand on the three teams directly above them. A win for the Bluebirds will see them outside of the relegation zone.

The Fleet travelled over the bridge to face Braintree Town in a match that was must-win if they were to stand any chance of avoiding the drop. Unfortunately, they were second best for most of the game as they have been all season. Matt Godden scored early on but his effort was met by the linesman's flag. Braintree took the lead as Luke Daley struck home from six yards out. The Fleet were level in the 36th minute when a neat one-two let Liam Enver-Marum through on goal. He made no mistake has he slotted home from eight yards out. A few minutes later Godden struck a magnificent free-kick against the woodwork and just two minutes after that, the Iron were ahead again. The Fleet failed to deal with a free-kick and the unmarked James Mulley headed home from eight yards. The game was over just past the hour mark when Kenny Davis netted from the spot. Things went from bad to worse for the Fleet when Stefan Payne was shown a straight red for what looked like a two-footed challenge. The Fleet remain second from bottom and are still eleven points from safety. A loss here would really be the final nail in the coffin.

KEY PLAYERS:

Barrow look to top scorer Adam Boyes to lead them to victory. The striker has hit twelve goals this campaign and will look to be adding to that against the worst defence in the league, although he has only hit three goals in his last ten matches. Barrow will also look to influential midfielder Richie Baker. The twenty five year old has been a regular in the first-team since joining in 2011 and has hit nine goals this season, including a hattrick at Stonebridge Road. The Fleet may need to keep him quiet if they are to get anything from the game.

The Fleet will be looking to on-loan Matt Godden. The striker is back at Stonebridge Road for a second time this season and is keen to impress his parent club with goals to keep the Fleet alive in the fight against relegation. The youngster has hit five goals in his eight league appearences and will be looking to add to that tally when the Fleet travel to Holker Street. The striker will be playing his last game for the Fleet. Preston Edwards is extremely vital for the Fleet at the moment. The young shot stopper has been excellent for most of the season, pulling off fantastic saves in every match. It's been said before, but the Fleet really would be down already if it wasn't for Edwards.

TEAM NEWS:

Danny Rowe is a doubt for Barrow and recent loan signing Steve Williams is missing. Other than that, Bayliss should have a full squad to choose from.

Stefan Payne will be missing from the squad after his red card against Braintree. Jack Saville is back in action while Craig Stone could be close to a return while striker Moses Ashikodi is back and available for selection.

Attendance: 1,378.

LAST TIME OUT:

Ebbsfleet United 2-4 Barrow

A Richie Baker hattrick gave the Cumbrians three points against fellow relegation strugglers Ebbsfleet.

Baker gave the visitors the lead in the 20th minute with a volley from inside the area. Paul Rutherford doubled Barrow's lead just five minutes later before Baker all but secured the win from the spot in the 36th minute. The Fleet just couldn't wait to hear the half-time whistle. The hosts came out for the second half a different outfit and goals from Tom Phipp and Nathan Elder gave the Fleet every chance of rescuing something until the 63rd minute. The hosts gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the area and of course Baker punished them, hitting his effort off the underside of the bar and in.

Attendance: 780.
